CyberWare: how it works
Neural controllers
To have any Cyberware or work as a Netrunner you have to have a Neural Controller. These come in three levels.
- Basic – You can guess what that means: this can interface with two items of interactive CyberWare eg. limbs. Also allows you to equip one skill chip.
- Advanced – Improved over the basic: this can interface with three items of interactive CyberWare. Also allows you to equip two skill chips.
- Ultimate – The current limit of technology but who knows: this can interface with four or more items of interactive CyberWare. Also allows you to equip three skill chips.
Interactive CyberWare
Interactive CyberWare is anything you need to have conscious control over eg. an arm/leg, eye etc. Things like implanted armour, autonomic things like replacement hearts etc. don’t count to the total.
Limbs and replacement organs
The default piece of CyberWare a person is fitted is something that simply functions much the same as the original but can be fitted quickly. After all the great advances in CyberWare were done to get troops back on the front lines of the first Corporate Wars ASAP not to make them better. Although obviously that came soon after.
Upgraded limbs/organs will have specific improvements in strength, toughness, special capabilites etc.
The true sign of wealth is when you eschew CyberWare completely and get yourself a new arm cloned or maybe even specially bio-engineered when the original gets shot off. Only street punks think chrome is cool.
